It’s Mindful Design Monday!
Today I am showing you my own kitchen renovation. This was done to make it more user-friendly with upgraded appliances, plumbing & lighting fixtures, kitchen cabinets, granite counters and brick backsplash.
It is the ‘heart of our home’ where everyone comes to hang out.
My Kitchen Renovation FEATURES:
- Using our existing Porcelain tile flooring
- Replacing our incandescent recessed layered pot lights with LED’s on dimmers
- Replaced shaker-style Maple Cabinets with custom-designed white-painted maple raised panel cabinets from Cabico Kitchen Cabinets out of Quebec.
- I treasure-hunted all our ‘bird cage’ black cabinet handles in various sizes at Restore to replace the knobs
- I treasure-hunted an old brown iron chandelier, repainted it and replaced bulbs with LED candelabra bulbs to put over my sink area
- I extended and enlarged our island (couldn’t move it because the previous owners didn’t put tile under it!!!) and turned it into a breakfast island with a recycling center, power, and pot drawers.
- Brought the cabinetry to the ceiling with staged custom moulding
- Designed a custom recessed cabinet above our built-in OTR microwave but extended it out to create dimension on the wall (and allow for the vent in the back)
- On the unused wall, I designed a pantry on both sides of our Full fridge/freezer
- Replaced the granite backsplashes with a Brick textured wall tile from Julian Tile
- Replaced our garburator with an Instant hot water faucet
- Replaced a sink stainless steel sink with a Blanco Low divide double Silgranite sink
If you are curious about the rest of what I did, I am doing 8 longer instructional videos on how I used my Design Dominoes – The Interior Process Game (c) to create my kitchen.
